Ellucian is seeking a Software Engineer I to join our platform engineering organization and help build intelligent, scalable, and secure cloud capabilities. In this role, you will contribute to AI-enabled features, APIs, and modern web experiences that support Ellucian’s ecosystem, including customer and partner-facing solutions such as the Ellucian Marketplace. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers across backend services, APIs, and web applications, learning how to integrate data, automate workflows, and deliver high-quality user experiences. Where you will make an impact

• Contribute to AI-enabled features by implementing AI-assisted and automation capabilities using approved platforms, SDKs, and services under guidance from senior engineers.
• Support API and backend development by building, enhancing, and maintaining secure, well-documented APIs that enable platform integrations.
• Learn and apply the best platform practices, including RESTful design, performance optimization, and secure coding standards.
• Help evolve web and marketplace experiences by contributing to web application development across frontend and backend components.
• Deliver user-focused solutions with attention to usability, accessibility, and maintainability.
• Grow as a software engineer by participating in agile ceremonies, code reviews, and technical discussions.
• Collaborate effectively with teammates across engineering, product, and architecture to understand requirements and deliver incremental value.

What will you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Foundational experience designing or building backend services, APIs, or web applications (through internships, coursework, or early professional roles).
• Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java.
• Familiarity with web application development and integrating frontends with APIs.
• Exposure to AI, machine learning, or generative AI concepts and an interest in applying them in real-world applications.
• Basic understanding of AI concepts such as model APIs, inference workflows, prompts, or data pipelines.
• Awareness of secure coding, data privacy, and quality best practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn in a collaborative technical environment.

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience integrating AI services or tools through projects, labs, or internships.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms or managed services (AWS, Azure, or equivalent).
• Exposure to OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth, or authentication and authorization concepts.
• Experience contributing to shared codebases using Git and participating in peer code reviews.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, SaaS applications, or DevOps fundamentals.
